Paula Loughnane - Senior Business Analyst

Paula joined Unum 7 years ago as a Business Analyst and has recently been promoted to the role of Senior Business Analyst within our Solutions Organisation. This technology organisation focuses on new and innovative projects while also modernising older platforms across Unum’s benefits offering.  

In her role, Paula bridges the gap between business partners and IT Teams based across the US and Ireland. The role primarily focuses on gathering client requirements to support the commencement and guidance of a project journey; requiring a deep understanding of both how the business and technology works. Currently, Paula is working on a project called HR Connect, a new system that streamlines and automates contracts with external partners to provide benefits for their employees.

Career journey in Unum:

When Paula started at Unum, she was assigned a mentor who was also a Business Analyst. Initially, it was a steep learning curve as Paula had previously worked in small companies, whilst at Unum, she had to navigate working in a large, distributed organisation, discovering her role and responsibilities within the Technology organisation.  

Paula qualified as Software developer and decided to start her career as a Business Analyst. Her academic background in Technology is a huge bonus, as she has an understanding and practical knowledge of technology. Today, Paula continues to learn through acquiring business knowledge and also Unum’s Agile SAFe certifications. As Paula continues to deepen her business knowledge and expertise, she is focused on continuing to develop and grow her career.

Paula chose Unum because she could see career opportunities and growth. She could advance her career and gain valuable experience working in a large distributed Technology organisation within a Fortune 500 US company.  

Paula enjoys working for Unum and is proud of everything she has achieved. She is grateful for the opportunities that have arisen within the company and is looking forward to developing her career further. She is also looking forward to her next challenge and career progression.

Paula feels fully supported by her manager and attributes the support, flexibility and understanding shown to her as a driving force in her career acceleration.

Working with a strong technical team, who strive for excellence, in turn drives her to work better and smarter. Paula is very involved in campus activities and is part of Sports & Social; she enjoys company days and office events. Paula enjoys the flexible working option at Unum, which enables her to work from home when she needs to do focused work. However, she enjoys being in the office for team sessions, plus a coffee and chat!
